A traditional funeral and burial in the US often costs $8,000 to over $12,000, including casket, embalming, cemetery plot and other expenses. An expensive funeral won't make you feel any better after you've passed, and an expensive casket won't make you more comfortable in death. You can help you family by telling them you don't want them spending all that money. They can give it to your grandchildren's education.
Cremation is becoming popular because it is much more affordable. In some areas, direct cremation can be as low as $1,000. If you are an active member of a good church, the church will conduct a funeral or memorial service at no rental charge. Just donate some money to pay the janitor to clean up afterward and to show you love for the pastor. Most pastors are underpaid, so an extra $100 or so would really help his family.
It starts when you realize that you don't have as much energy as you had just a few years before. Then you will notice an ache in a part of your body you didn't even know existed. Your balance isn't as good as it used to be. Stairs become difficult, and you start forgetting things. You can still get out and drive places, but it isn't as easy as it was before.
Your children are thinking you shoudn't be driving any more, and they are thinking you should have a caregiver come to your home every day to help you with the things you can't do any more.

You finally made it! You're retired! You can travel, volunteer for a worthy cause and spend time with your grandkids. If you're like a lot of people, you have about 10 years to enjoy life before the frailties of old age slow you down.
You can stay in your own home or move into a 55+ community with lower-maintenance housing. If you have a lot of equity in your home, you can downsize into a smaller home and have cash left over to fund the retirement of a lifetime.
It can come suddenly, with a fall, a stroke or a heart attack. The doctor says you can't live safely at home any more, so you will have to make a major decision without time to prepare.
Where will you live? How will you pay for it? You'll never be able to live in your house again. Most people in this stage of life sell their homes to pay for their final years in an assisted living community.

There comes a time when a person passes the point of no return. They do not respond to treatment. Their body is too weak for surgery or other medical procedures. The best medical treatment at this time is to make them as comfortable as possible during their final days.
Hospice organizations provide the type of medical care and medications to relieve as much pain and suffering as possible.
Hospice organizations often provide a chaplain to visit for couseling and prayer.

There is no better time to prepare for life after death than now. God has prepared a place in Heaven for you, but it won't come automatically. It's His gift for you if you will take it. You will be meeting the God who created you. I pray that you will be ready.
